Producing a Thoroughly Professional Book for You

The Patrice Press has produced dozens of books on contract with both experienced and first-time authors. When our name is on the book it is absolutely first class (or we don't put our name on it). Editorial counsel is provided by one of the finest book editors in the business, Betty Burnett, Ph.D. Design and production are supervised by Gregory M. Franzwa, founder and director of the press

Some case histories:

A first-time author brought his work of historical fiction to us, because he knew of our expertise on the history of the Oregon Trail. Historical errors were corrected, and he was given help in character development, plot structure, and dialogue. Result: The book received good reviews and continues to sell well.

A "city father" of a Kentucky community sought help while writing a family history. Under our direction, the work grew into a history of Paducah and became a fine book. The first printing sold out easily.

A historian needed help with both the design and editing for a diary of a California emigrant. After consultation with The Patrice Press, her book won the top award of the American Association for State and Local History. Now in its second edition as a trade paperback, the book is still selling well.

An experienced writer, who had already used a well-known editor, brought a historical novella to the Press. Some crucial errors were discovered, some rewriting suggested, and the author, relieved that the book would not go before the public flawed, enthusiastically recommends the Press to other authors.

An author prepared a massive chronicle of her service as a ferry pilot during World War II. We not only edited the book scrupulously, but broke the manuscript into two volumes. Result: Vol. 1 is now in its third printing, Vol. 2 in its second. Reams of praise, including fine reviews, have come to the author.

A major symphony orchestra commissioned an update of its history. When it came time to seek printing bids, the printer of the original edition was asked to quote, along with manufacturers traditionally used by the Patrice Press. The quote by the original printer was nearly double that of the Patrice Press manufacturers, saving the symphony society thousands of dollars.

There are dozens more incidents where authors have been given expert, professional service, and all have ended up as strong supporters of The Patrice Press. Most have emerged from the experience as warm personal friends of the firm's principals.

In some cases the completed work is turned over to the sponsor for promotion, sale, and fulfillment. In many cases, if the sponsor would rather not do this or if the book seems to fit our clientele, The Patrice Press will promote, warehouse, and list the book in our catalog. We'll fill the orders, collect the proceeds, and send royalties the author periodically.
